Smart home adoption keeps growing, but not every device is a simple swap. Some genuinely benefit from a licensed electrician's involvement, either for compatibility or safety reasons.
Upgrades where an electrician's input helps
- Smart dimmers and switches. Compatibility between dimmers, LED bulbs, and neutral-wire requirements is a common source of buzzing, flickering, or non-functional smart switches when self-installed.
- Whole-home backup and smart panels. Newer "smart panel" products that allow circuit-level monitoring and control are an electrical installation, not a plug-in device.
- EV charger scheduling integration. Tying a smart charger into home energy management systems often benefits from an electrician confirming circuit setup during install.
What's usually fine without one
Smart plugs, most smart bulbs, and battery-powered smart sensors are generally designed for homeowner installation without any wiring work involved. For anything beyond that, our general electrician team can advise before you buy.
